Queen’s Charm

This Federation home in Queens Park has been reimagined into a luxurious yet liveable retreat for a family of five. Designed to grow with the family, the four-bedroom, two-storey home marries timeless elegance with thoughtful functionality.

Our clients wanted to transform their home into a welcoming space for everyday life and entertaining. While the house had a functional layout, generous proportions and a well-designed rear extension, it lacked personality and charm. To address this, we focused on bringing character and sophistication to the existing design, balancing the home’s heritage charm with contemporary updates.

A key challenge was creating a seamless transition between the original part of the home and the contemporary extension at the rear. This also meant reconciling the clients’ two distinct styles – one favouring clean, modern minimalism and the other leaning toward classic elegance and intricate detailing. We achieved this balance by layering natural materials, soft curves and refined textures, ensuring the home feels warm, inviting and timeless.

Key elements include natural finishes such as aged brass, fluted oak and travertine, chosen for their beauty and durability. These ‘living finishes’ age gracefully over time, creating a sense of heritage and longevity — features that were not only important to our clients, but help ground the home and connect it to its history.

The redesigned kitchen serves as the heart of the home, featuring a stunning quartzite island with a soft bullnose edge and seating for five. Upstairs, the main bedroom has been transformed into a relaxing haven with Venetian plaster walls, plush carpet and noise-softening curtains.

Clever storage solutions – including an attic conversion, built-in joinery and a concealed bar – make it easy to keep everything organised, creating a home that’s perfect for unwinding and ready to welcome guests at a moment’s notice.

Layered, warm and cohesive, this Federation beauty has been designed to meet the family’s needs today and effortlessly evolve with them over the years.
